Amtrak San Joaquins’ New Rail Cars

Built with a nearly $100 million investment by Siemens Mobility, the new Amtrak San Joaquins rail cars were designed to be more comfortable, safer and ADA friendly with greater accessibility for all. Not only has the production of the new rail cars bolstered our economy through job creation, but with high-speed capacity, more storage, larger workstations and luxury seating, the new rail cars bring economic support, a better passenger experience and improved rail connectivity.

ADA Accessibility

On-board wheelchair lifts and seamless end-to-end wheelchair access on all cars make it less difficult to navigate the train. The aisles are wider, sensor-activated automatic doors have been installed and 32”-wide gangways offer a smooth transition for mobility devices between cars with no doors.

Spacious, accessible restrooms feature
touch-free controls for flushing, hand drying and soap dispensing, plus an emergency button for crew alert.

Inside each car, there’s one wheelchair space with overhead reading lights controlled either by an overhead or secondary sidewall mounted push button and two flip-down seats available for a companion passenger, with adjacent wheelchair storage space.
