Skunk Train
The iconic Skunk Train takes travelers on a historic ride through Mendocino County’s stunning redwoods. Built in the 1880s, this rail line played a vital role in transporting lumber, families, and workers to and from various logging camps along the route. In 1925, self-propelled motorcars were introduced, earning the railway its infamous name. The combination of gasoline engines and pot-bellied stoves produced a distinctive, pungent odor. Today, the Skunk Train offers unforgettable trips through towering redwoods, with routes departing from Willits and Fort Bragg that are, thankfully, far less stinky.
