Acknowledging and Celebrating Local Women this Women’s History Month!

Did you know that Women's History Month started out as Women's History Week and was intending on staying that way? Starting in the Humble halls of the Education Task Force for Sonoma County in Santa Rosa California, Women's History Month has now become a Celebration and observance of the important role women place in American History. At Amtrak San Joaquins we wanted to highlight local women who are making their mark throughout the state.

sacramento

Drip Espresso

What could be better than a  warm cup of coffee on a chilly spring morning? New to the heart of Midtown Sacramento, Drip Espresso offers customers who love coffee a connection to community and culture. Started by sisters Jasmine Bronson, Keiona Williamson, and Taylor White, Drip Espresso is a way for them to connect to the community that they love through good food and great espresso. Sourcing their ingredients from local women as well as vendors from the LGBTQIA+ community, you'll be able to relax, connect, and learn. Currently, Open Saturday and Sunday from 7:30 A.M. - 2:30 P.M.

 

Directions: Amtrak San Joaquin riders who are dropped off at the Sacramento Valley Station can catch a Lyft or Urber to the 1004 24th Street Drip Espresso Cafe.

Women in Business Pop up Event

Looking for a way to support local women in the Sacramento area? Why not attend the Women in Business Pop-Up event. Located in Old Sacramento's 1107 Firehouse Alley in the new venue Our Event Space and Kitchen. The event will host a pop-shop featuring local women owned vendors and services, guest speakers focusing on wellness, and food. Directions: Amtrak San Joaquin riders who are dropped off at the Sacramento Valley Station can take a quick 9 minute walk. Head west from the station, taking left  2nd street, right on K street, and left on Firehouse Alley.

Have the itch to shop till you drop AND support entrepreneurial women? Head to The Shop @ KLSD's new bigger and better location in Downtown Fresno. The trendy shopables include owner Alexandra Register's designed apparel and a range of cocktail mixers, dried flowers, jewelry and stationary (not to mention so much more). If you aren't able to hit the brick-and-mortar, head to the boutique's just as cute online shop and support young women who are making moves! Store hours are Wednesday - Friday 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM and Saturday 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM.

Bay Area

Artists 4 ERA: Art Show and Benefit for Gender Equality

1721 Broadway, Oakland | March 19 | 5:00 PM - 8:30 PM

Enjoy a live public art event featuring top artists in support of gender equality. This art installation, hosted at Oakstop's Broadway Gallery in Oakland, uses fresh, exciting imagery to depict diverse communities and help viewers see themselves in the struggle for equal rights. The event is free and open to the public, but donations are welcomed and will go towards efforts to add the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) to the US Constitution to ensure gender equality. The gallery opens Saturday, March 19th at 5:00 PM and the reception is from 7:00-8:30 PM. Get your tickets here!

Directions: Take the Amtrak San Joaquins to Jack London Square Amtrak Station. Take Broadway Street to reach 1721 Broadway - it's a 20 minute walk, 8 minute bike ride, or 10 minutes on the AC Transit 12 bus.
