California is full of historically significant locations. You can even travel to a number of them on the Amtrak San Joaquins. Colonel Allensworth State Historic Parks is one of our state's most significant historical locations. To celebrate Juneteenth this year, join us aboard Amtrak San Joaquins, and travel back in time to Allensworth State Historic Park, the site of the first town founded and financed entirely by African Americans.

Allensworth was founded by Buffalo Soldier and Civil War Veteran, ColonelAllen Allensworth and four other settlers. Their dream was to establish an African American agricultural community, envisioning a haven after the emancipation proclamation. It was a place where they could build a sustainable life for themselves and be prosperous without persecution.

The town would be purchased by the California State Parks in 1974, 70 years after the death of Colonel Allensworth, ensuring that his life and the town's legacy would live on through future generations. This historic state park spans over 240 acres, with nine buildings in the town center being restored, an ongoing reconstruction project, and an outdoor seating area. Trees planted by the California Conservation Corps provide shade to the picnic area, complete with BBQ stands.

Amtrak San Joaquins invites you to join us for the Allensworth Juneteenth celebration, with tickets at a discounted price 50% off! Going with a group? No problem, group travel saves you 30%. Make group travel arrangements by calling our group desk at 1-800-USA-1GRP (1-800-872-1477). Relax on the train ride through the Central Valley and embark on a historical adventure to Colonel Allensworth Station. Enjoy free Wi-Fi, a Café Car, and a comfortable, clean, and convenient environment.

Once you arrive at the Allensworth Station, make your way to the Visitors' Center, which shows a video presentation, "The Spirit of Allensworth." Enjoy food vendors, live music, and actors bringing the legacy of Colonel Allensworth to life! There will be a shuttle available from the Train Station to the park for those visitors who need assistance. For train reservations, call Amtrak at 510-238-4360, book online at Amtrak San Joaquins, or use the Amtrak App to purchase a ticket..
